Overview

The COVID-19 pandemic, the rapid development of the internet &technology, and globalization let more people join the online working world. Some are very fresh to the virtual working style, while others to the workplace. The overlap between newcomers to online space and those to a workplace (e.g., companies, organizations, institutions, etc.) becomes the niche my project will concentrate on. "Newcomers" addressed in my research refer to anyone new to a virtual workspace. A person can be new to offline and online workspace, but there are disparities in navigating rapport-building and communication between the two. Current academic literature touches on online workspace communication or rapport-building while transitioning to a new offline workplace. Nevertheless, little research found their interest in newcomers' rapport-building in an online workspace.
